2007 SEASON SUMMARY
The
Steamwheelers entered the year with a new ownership group led by Mike
Bawden after nearly facing extinction. Sean Ponder was hired as head
coach and Troy Biladeau came on as assist/def. coord. along with
local HS Legends.
The season was
launched with Steam Week that included Steamwheelers University and
kickoff banquet. Tulsa came into scrimmage during camp and Quad City
played Green Bay in another Pizza Bowl preseason game.
The
team started out 3-0 then went 0-3. Kimo Naehu was hospitalized
with a concussion, Shonn Bell was suspended for violating team conduct policy.
Sidney Lewis was suspended for four games. Coach Ponder trips Reggie Perkins and was suspended. Troy
Biladeau was named interim head coach and Shon King the OC to
face the undefeated Pioneers but lost at the buzzer.
For
the 2nd year in a row, 3 receivers caught 100 plus passes for 1,000 plus
yards (Kris Peters, Jack Walker, Jr. and Thomas Anthony). We end up
10-6 and Green Bay's loss gave the division title to
QC.
Just as the
team started preparing for the playoffs, two players (Matt
Pike/Jeff Macrea) were arrested in separate altercations and kicked off the team.
Quad City loses to Green Bay at home in round 1
of the playoffs.
