Training Camp Report - Day 7
By: Gary Stibolt, Staff Writer
"Much Better!" Those were the two words
that coach Biladeau had for his team following a 60-minute workout
at the Bubble this morning. The week has been a roller
coaster since the pads went on and now we are on the upswing again. We have the right guys here that can play. For some reason, it is the offense that is lagging behind. Film from the Friday scrimmage showed a
few spots where things need to be a bit crisper and as the workout
unfolded today, it was evident that these guys would work hard to
make it happen. It was another solid practice. Players,
coaches, owners, and staff love the discipline and the effort that
the players are putting into their practices and ultimately the
season. The day started out short two people. One
offensive lineman left the team and a DB was informed his services were no longer needed. But
the day ended with a net of two more as coach
Biladeau signed a couple of offensive linemen. All but one reported
today. He'll join the team on Monday. He is an AFL guy who
was just released and decided to come to
play in the Quad Cities. Most of the day was spent on team
drills. The first series was a significant improvement from
Friday as the O-line protected very well. As I reported on
Friday, the quick tempo further developed today. J.J. Raterink
moved the ball down field articulately. What has to happen now
is a) - consistency and b) - conditioning. Those things
develop in camp and this year is no different. The players will have Sunday off to
rest their bodies and then report back to duty on Monday at the
Bubble. The following Monday will be cut day league-wide as
teams need to trim to twenty-two. We'll track the progress
next week. Till then, enjoy your Irish flare
weekend! - End
