The passion for football was there long before the Steamwheelers came to town. There was the Quad City Black Hawks, a semi-pro football team coached by the late Jim Hester. Before that there were the Quad City Mohawks. Years ago, there was actually an NFL team known as the Rock Island Independents. The website came about as a way to express the enthusiasm felt for having professional football back in the Quad Cities.
